20 Years of Buckaroo: A Conversation with Rens Gerritsen, Head of Product

This year, Buckaroo celebrates its 20th anniversary — a great moment to reflect on the people who have shaped the company and continue to make an impact every day. One of them is Rens Gerritsen, who has been with Buckaroo for more than six years and has recently taken on the role of Head of Product. We spoke to him about his career path, what “paying attention” means to him, and his vision for the future of payments.

From Workplace Administrator to Head of Product

Rens started at Buckaroo in December 2018 as a workplace administrator, responsible for all laptops and workstations. He says: “Since this year, I’ve been Head of Product, overseeing the full product strategy and vision for Buckaroo.” It’s a role that allows him to bridge technology, customer needs, and the company’s direction on a daily basis.

The customer comes first

 

What Rens values most in his work is putting the customer at the center of everything. “A customer has a specific question and a specific need. And even though payments may seem obvious, they simply have to work. It’s about finding the right solution together. In other words: listening to the customer, understanding their needs, and trying to implement that within their checkout .”

Paying Attention

When asked what makes Buckaroo unique, Rens doesn’t have to think long. For him, it all comes down to two words that lie at the heart of everything Buckaroo does: paying attention. “Those two words are, in essence, what makes Buckaroo stand out — truly thinking along with the customer and finding the best possible solution.”

 

What does the future look like?

Ease of use is becoming increasingly important, especially for small business owners. While multiple providers are still often required for different financial services, Rens sees this changing rapidly: “We’re seeing these worlds starting to come together more and more.
