Utrecht, Brussels, Luxembourg - October 13, 2025 – Buckaroo, Payconiq International and the European Payments Initiative (EPI) today announced a strategic agreement to bring Wero to Luxembourg. Subject to regulatory review, Payconiq’s direct merchant portfolio will transfer to Buckaroo in early 2026. Buckaroo will then enable Wero acceptance for these merchants once the standalone Wero app goes live in Luxembourg, targeted for mid‑2026.
This collaboration ensures that consumers and merchants in Luxembourg will soon benefit from one of the most advanced, feature-rich payment systems in Europe, designed to make everyday transactions faster, easier, and more secure. As part of this agreement, Buckaroo will take over Payconiq’s direct merchant portfolio in Luxembourg, ensuring a smooth transition to Wero and setting the stage for a future-proof seamless payment experience.
As a result of the strategic partnership between Buckaroo, EPI and Payconiq International, Luxembourg merchants will gain access to state-of-the-art payment technology and expertise, ensuring they stay ahead in an increasingly digital economy. This partnership will further accelerate widespread adoption of Wero in the Benelux.

A simple, feature-rich experience in one intuitive Wero app.
Access to a unified European payment platform, reducing complexity and costs.
Faster settlement and improved cash flow through instant payments.
Advanced tools to stay competitive in a digital-first economy
Under the agreement, merchants will be legally transferred to Buckaroo in early 2026 - pending regulatory review. Buckaroo will then migrate the merchant base from Payconiq to Wero, providing merchant acceptance of Wero, once the Wero standalone app is launched in Luxembourg by mid-2026.
This step reinforces Luxembourg’s role as a flagship market for European payment innovation and supports the broader vision of a connected, competitive, sovereign and secure digital economy in Europe.
“Taking over Payconiq’s Luxembourg merchant portfolio strengthens our European footprint and positions us at the forefront of cross-border payment innovation. This is more than a technical migration—it’s a strategic move toward harmonised, future-proof payment services. We look forward to working with Payconiq and Wero to deliver a secure and merchant-friendly transition.” Paul Scholten, CEO of Buckaroo
“This agreement reflects our commitment to an orderly and responsible migration from Payconiq to Wero on the Luxembourg market.
