Plutosport, a leading online retailer of premium sports and lifestyle brands, has taken major steps to improve the performance of its webshop. Together with technical partner Emico and payment partner Buckaroo, Plutosport implemented the optimized checkout module from Hyvä.
The result? A faster website, better conversions, and an optimized customer experience. “Performance was crucial for us. With Hyvä and the expertise of Emico and Buckaroo, we built a faster webshop, which directly impacted our conversion rate,” says Rowin, Head of Product at Plutosport.
Plutosport started in 2005 as a B2B wholesaler and built a strong network in the sports and lifestyle market. In 2010, the company made the switch to e-commerce — a decision that quickly paid off. Now, in 2024, Plutosport has grown into an e-commerce company active in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and France.
Still, the Plutosport team saw opportunities for improvement. The speed and scalability of the webshop no longer matched the company's growth ambitions. "Performance is essential in our market," says Rowin. "We were looking for a solution that would enable us to move faster, scale more easily, and elevate the customer experience."
To realize its ambitions, Plutosport chose to collaborate with Emico, a specialist in technical e-commerce. "We always start with a technical audit to identify areas for improvement," says Mitchell, Operations Manager at Emico. "For Plutosport, we recommended Hyvä, a lightweight framework that combines speed and flexibility."
Originally developed as a frontend for Magento 2, Hyvä now offers various modules, including the Hyvä checkout. "We focus on developer convenience and performance, so webshops like Plutosport have an ideal foundation to optimize their online store," says Sanne Bolkenstein, Commercial Director at Hyvä. Buckaroo also played a key role in the checkout process. As one of the first PSPs, it offered a fully integrated payment module for Hyvä, providing Plutosport with a faster and more user-friendly payment experience — fully aligned with their core values.
The implementation of Hyvä was approached carefully and in phases. Emico and Plutosport first tested the new structure in smaller markets to optimize before rolling it out in the Netherlands. The final step, the Hyvä checkout, was realized in close collaboration with Buckaroo. "The time from shopping cart to checkout was reduced from four to just one second," says Rowin. "That may seem minor, but in e-commerce it makes a huge difference in conversion."
The results speak for themselves: a faster webshop with improved performance and increased conversion rates — especially thanks to the improved checkout. Additionally, Buckaroo enables Plutosport to flexibly add new payment methods and quickly respond to market changes, further supporting the company's growth ambitions.
With the migration to Hyvä, Plutosport has laid a strong foundation for further growth. The webshop is faster, customers enjoy an improved user experience, and new innovations can be implemented more easily. "The great thing about this collaboration is that we’re always thinking ahead.
