Wero is a new European payment method developed by the European Payments Initiative (EPI). It enables customers to pay online directly from their bank account, using their banking app or the Wero app. For merchants in Luxembourg, Wero is relevant because it is being introduced as part of a broader European rollout, with support for cross-border payments within participating markets.
Secure account-to-account payments
Built for European and cross-border commerce
A familiar checkout via banking app or Wero app
One European payment method for multiple markets
Fast account-to-account payments
Checkout through a trusted banking app or Wero app
Designed for online and cross-border commerce
Wero was first launched for person-to-person payments in Belgium, France and Germany. The next phase expands Wero further into e-commerce and additional markets, including Luxembourg. In Luxembourg, several major banks started implementation with support from LUXHUB, and EPI previously communicated availability for Luxembourgish customers from June 2026.
Wero should be seen as a payment method to prepare for now, especially if you sell across borders or want to offer customers a European bank-based checkout experience.
The arrival of Wero is relevant for businesses that process online payments in Luxembourg and want to be ready for the next generation of European account-to-account payments. It fits business models where a simple, bank-based checkout and cross-border reach matter.
Whether you work with a standard plugin or a custom API, Buckaroo helps you prepare your checkout for Wero. That way, you can add a new European payment method without unnecessary complexity.
Buckaroo is directly involved in the Luxembourg transition through its strategic agreement with Payconiq International and EPI. This gives Luxembourg merchants access to payment expertise aimed at a smooth path towards Wero.
New payment methods raise practical questions. That is why Buckaroo supports merchants with whitepapers, updates and implementation guidance, so teams know what changes and what to prepare for.
