The migration from Payconiq to Wero has officially begun in Luxembourg. As of 1 September 2026, Wero is available to consumers and businesses in Luxembourg. For Buckaroo, the migration marks not only an important milestone in the rollout of Wero, but also the next step in its continued growth across the Benelux.
Wero is the pan-European payment solution from the European Payments Initiative (EPI), developed to provide consumers and merchants with a strong European payment alternative. Following earlier launches in markets including Germany and Belgium, Luxembourg is the next market where Wero is becoming available. As part of this transition, the Payconiq payment platform in Luxembourg are being phased out.
Buckaroo plays a central role in the transition from Payconiq to Wero in Luxembourg. Considerable work has been carried out behind the scenes to enable the migration from a technical perspective while minimising the impact on merchants and their customers.
A key part of this is compatibility with existing static Payconiq QR codes and QR codes on invoices. These QR codes will remain usable until the end of 2026 and can be scanned directly with the Wero app. This allows businesses to continue using their existing QR codes during the transition, while consumers gradually move from Payconiq to Wero. Buckaroo also supports customers that offer Payconiq through a technical integration in their transition to Wero.
For Buckaroo, the introduction of Wero goes beyond this migration. Buckaroo has been active in the Netherlands and Belgium for many years. With a physical office in Luxembourg, the organisation is continuing to strengthen its position across the Benelux.
This local presence enables Buckaroo to stay close to customers and partners in Luxembourg while benefiting from the scale, technology and experience built up in other European markets. The migration from Payconiq to Wero represents a first building block for further growth in the Luxembourg market. Buckaroo offers a full set of services to customers, including all the payment methods and use cases needed in Luxembourg, as well as additional services for the purposes of optimised management; operational information in portals, reports and files, credit management, financing.
The combination of local involvement and international experience is particularly important for a payment migration of this scale. Wero now serves approximately 58 million European users and continues to expand across Europe. This is creating a payment solution that consumers can increasingly use with confidence both within and beyond their home country.
“Buckaroo has supported Wero from the outset. Europe needs a strong pan-European payment method that strengthens competition, encourages innovation and gives merchants and consumers a genuine European choice. We are already live with Wero in Germany and Belgium, and we are now bringing that operational experience to Luxembourg while running pilots in our home market, the Netherlands. For us, success means translating Wero’s European ambition into reliable everyday payments and a controlled transition for merchants.”
