Thirty years ago, Sans started out as a clothing store in Rijssen, in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It was originally founded by Herman Sans but nowadays his sons Tom and Nick Sans are in charge. In 2008, they started a webshop. A smart move, because Sans Online has now grown into a leading webshop with a Twinkle100 rating. Tom Sans: “Buckaroo fits our shop perfectly. We’ve been in business for over 10 years.”
The 1,200 square metres store offers women’s and men’s fashion. Because they offer casual brands at sharp prices and deliver orders fast, Sans has over 80,000 loyal customers. Do you order online? Then your order is delivered the very same day when you live within the region, and the next day when you live elsewhere in the Netherlands.

Before Tom took over the store from his father, he opened a store himself, a franchise. After several years, he and his brother Nick (who at the time was working in the hospitality business) gradually took over several tasks for fashion store Sans. Friends of them were experts at building websites and helped them to start selling a select number of brands online. Tom: “The marketing activities have shifted from advertisements in (local) newspapers to Google search engine optimization. Regionally, we’re easy to find on Google.”
About 70 percent of all sales are made online and 30 percent in-store. The order volume is also larger online. The store on the other hand doesn’t have to deal with returns. Whereas online about 50% of all orders is returned. An increase of 10% compared to the previous year.
When a package is returned, it is scanned and Buckaroo’s software receives a notice to automatically refund the money to the customer’s account. This seemless return process is enabled by the link to the Factif ecommerce platform.
The Sans Online checkout is a multi-step process. Tom is not a fan of the alternative, the one-step-checkout: “If you cram everything into one page, it confuses the customer. There’s something here, there’s something there, there’s an entry field here and overthere. We prefer to guide our customers throught the payment process step by step. Without too much distraction.”

“In 2008, we were looking for a Payment Service Provider and turned to Buckaroo. They offer a reliable (payment) product at a great price. Sans also uses a payment link for emails which directs customers to a Buckaroo payment page, yet with the look and feel of Sans.
